Good and bad qualities to develop in the mind.

AN 1.61

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to wholesome qualities, or makes unwholesome qualities decline, like arousing energy. When you’re energetic, wholesome qualities arise and unwholesome qualities decline.”

AN 1.62

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to unwholesome qualities, or makes wholesome qualities decline, like having many desires. When you have many desires, unwholesome qualities arise and wholesome qualities decline.”

AN 1.63

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to wholesome qualities, or makes unwholesome qualities decline like having few desires. When you have few desires, wholesome qualities arise and unwholesome qualities decline.”

AN 1.64

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to unwholesome qualities, or makes wholesome qualities decline like lack of contentment. When you lack contentment, unwholesome qualities arise and wholesome qualities decline.”

AN 1.65

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to wholesome qualities, or makes unwholesome qualities decline like contentment. When you’re contented, wholesome qualities arise and unwholesome qualities decline.”

“Monks, I do not see a single thing that gives rise to unwholesome qualities, or makes wholesome qualities decline, like bad friends. When you have bad friends, unwholesome qualities arise and wholesome qualities decline.”
