Good Conduct

The Buddha explains the three kinds of good conduct.

This discourse was taught by the Blessed One, taught by the Arahant, the fully enlightened Supreme Buddha. This is as I heard,

“Monks, there are three kinds of good conduct. What are the three? Bodily good conduct, verbal good conduct, and mental good conduct.”

This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said. So, with regard to this, it was said:

Having abandoned bodily misconduct, verbal misconduct, mental misconduct and whatever else is flawed, and not having done what is unwholesome and having done much that is wholesome, at the break-up of the body, the wise person is reborn in heaven.”

This, too, is the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One. This is exactly as I heard.
