This discourse was taught by the Blessed One, taught by the Arahant, the fully enlightened Supreme Buddha. This is as I heard:
“Monks, there are three characteristics of a sage. Which three? Bodily sagacity, verbal sagacity, and mental sagacity. Monks, these are the three characteristics of a sage.
This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said. So, with regard to this, it was said:
One who is a sage in body, a sage in speech, and a sage in mind is taintless. One who possesses these characteristics of sagacity is called one cleansed of all evil.
This, too, is the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One. This is exactly as I heard.
