This discourse was taught by the Blessed One, taught by the Arahant, the fully enlightened Supreme Buddha. This is as I heard:
“Monks, some beings engage in bodily misconduct, in verbal misconduct, in mental misconduct, revile noble ones, hold wrong views, and perform various actions under the influence of wrong views. With my divine eye, I have seen these beings; at the break-up of the body, after death, they are reborn in the plane of misery, the worst destination, the lowest realm, in hell.
Monks, I do not say this having heard it from another recluse or Brāhmin.
Monks, some beings in this world engage in bodily misconduct, in verbal misconduct, in mental misconduct, revile noble ones, hold wrong views, and perform various actions under the influence of wrong views. With my divine eye, I have seen these beings; at the break-up of the body, after death, they are reborn in the plane of misery, the worst destination, the lowest realm, in hell.
Monks, it is just because I have known it myself, seen it myself with my divine eye, and have realized it myself that I say: Monks, some beings in this world engage in bodily misconduct, in verbal misconduct, in mental misconduct, revile noble ones, hold wrong views, and perform various actions under the influence of wrong views. With my divine eye, I have seen these beings; at the break-up of the body, after death, they are reborn in the plane of misery, the worst destination, the lowest realm, in hell.”
This is the meaning of what the Blessed One said. So, with regard to this, it was said:
In this world, a person, with his mind directed on wrong views, utters wrong speech and does wrong bodily deeds.
This human life is very short. But this person who lacks Dhamma knowledge does only evil. At the break-up of the body, this foolish person is reborn in hell.
This, too, is the meaning of what was said by the Blessed One. This is exactly as I heard.
