TheragāthāThag 4.1
The Verses of Arahant Nāgasamāla (267-270)

267. She was a dancing girl. She was beautifully dressed, decorated with ornaments and wearing flower garlands. Her whole body was covered with sandalwood cream. In the middle of the main road she was dancing to music.

268. At that time I entered the main road for my alms round. As I was going alone, I saw her, beautifully dressed and decorated with ornaments. It occurred to me that she was like a snare put out by Māra.

269. Based on this incident, I gained wise consideration. I started to think wisely. The danger of sensual pleasures was clear to me. Disenchantment with life was established in my mind.

270. Based on this same incident, my mind was liberated from all defilements. See the excellence of this Dhamma! I too attained the Triple Knowledge. The Buddha’s path has been fully followed by me.

These verses were said by Arahant Nāgasamāla.
