This is as I heard from the Blessed One. Those days, the Blessed One was living in the province of Sāvatthī in Jeta’s Park, at Anāthapiṇḍika’s monastery. At that time, Venerable Cūḷa Panthaka was sitting not far from the Blessed One, his legs crossed, his body upright, meditating with mindfulness well established. The Blessed One saw Venerable Cūḷa Panthaka sitting not far away, his legs crossed, his body upright, meditation with mindfulness well established.
Then, on realizing the bliss of Nibbāna, the Blessed One on that occasion exclaimed:
“If the monk’s body and mind is
well established on mindfulness
while standing, sitting or lying down,
he practices Dhamma with great determination.
He will gain understanding sooner or later.
As a result that monk goes
where the Evil One1 can’t see.”
