TheragāthāThag 4.5
The Verses of Arahant Jambuka (283-286)

283. For fifty-five years, I didn’t wear anything at all. I covered my body with dust. I only ate one meal a month, putting a very small quantity of rice on my tongue. I ripped out my beard and hair.

284. I rejected seats; I stood on one leg. I ate dry dung and I did not accept any invitations.

285. In this way, I collected a lot of demerit leading to a bad destination. While I was drowning in the great flood of defilements, I was able to go for refuge to the Supreme Buddha.

286. See the assurance of my arrival to the Noble Triple Gem! See the excellence of the Dhamma! I achieved the Triple Knowledge. The Buddha’s path has been fully followed by me.

These verses were said by Arahant Jambuka.
