Assembly

What qualities do gods admire?

“Monks, in the assembly of the gods, they are pleased and speak about the person who has four qualities. What are these four qualities? Firstly, a noble disciple has unshakable confidence in the Buddha… There are deities with unshakable confidence in the Buddha who passed away as humans and were reborn in heaven. They think: ‘Having such unshakable confidence in the Buddha, we passed away as humans and were reborn here, in heaven. That noble disciple, who, now lives in the human world, has the same kind of unshakable confidence in the Buddha, so he will also be reborn among the gods.’

“Furthermore, a noble disciple has unshakable confidence in the Dhamma… the Saṅgha… And he have the virtue loved by the noble ones… leading to concentration. There are deities with the virtue loved by the noble ones who passed away as humans and were reborn in heaven. They think: ‘Having such virtue loved by the noble ones, we passed away as humans and were reborn here, in heaven. That noble disciple, who, now lives in the human world, has the same kind of virtue loved by the noble ones, so he will also be reborn among the gods.’
