The Verses of Arahant Yasadatta (360-364)

360. The fool hears the Buddha’s Dhamma with a fault-finding mind. He is as far away from the Dhamma as the earth is from the sky.

361. The fool hears the Supreme Buddha’s Dhamma with a fault-finding mind. He declines from the Dhamma like the declining moon into the darkness.

362. The fool hears the Supreme Buddha’s Dhamma with a fault-finding mind. He dries up in the Dhamma like a fish in little water.

363. The fool hears the Supreme Buddha’s Dhamma with a fault-finding mind. He does not grow in the Dhamma like a rotten seed in a field.

364. But the wise person listens to the Supreme Buddha’s Dhamma with a joyful mind. He eliminates all the taints. Having realized Nibbāna, he attains the highest peace. With a taint-free mind, he attains final extinguishing at passing away.
